Who We Are
We are a user led organisation with a membership of 1100 visually impaired people living in the York area. Membership is free, and gives an entitlement to vote at our Annual General Meeting and elect the members of our governing body (trustees).
Our Board of Trustees has 10 members and we strive to ensure that half of the Board are people with personal experience of sight loss.
We are grateful to be supported in our work by the Big Lottery Fund and we are proud recipients of The Duke of York Community Initiative Award and the Mentoring and Befriending Approved Provider status.
Jim has recently retired as Finance Director of a group of bus companies. He has been a trustee since 2014 and has been Chair for 2 years.
Danielle Walker Palmour
Danielle is the director of a national charity based in York where she has lived for 19 years. She has been a trustee for 3 years. Danielle is visually impaired herself and is a keen runner and rower.
The trustees are pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Froggatt as its new Chief Executive. Karen has significant experience in the Charity sector most recently as Group Head of Volunteering at RNIB. She was previously a Director at Victim Support and part of the Corporate Management Team with specific responsibility for service delivery and operations in the North of England..
Karen’s skills and experience, along with her passion and personality will benefit the Society over the coming years.
We are particularly pleased to have recruited someone of Karen’s stature to continue the progress made by Ashley Mason.
Karen will start with the Society on 18th June 2018.
